    End of Summer Looks

End of Summer Looks with Gozon

I don’t know if summer is exactly ending yet, but it definitely seems like it with it already being August and back to school clothes and commercials flooding the markets. I think we can all agree that we aren’t ready for sweaters and jackets yet. It will be hot here in Dallas for another few months, but as the months go by, my style changes to a more fall-summer style rather than the current looks. That’s why I’ve teamed up with Gozon to show you the best end of summer looks!

Flounce Bell Sleeve Top c/o | Shorts | Sandals here, here, or here | Sunglasses

First up, is this flounce bell sleeve top. I’m kind of obsessed with ruffles this season. it’s funny because I’m not usually super girly, but my style this summer says otherwise. This top is a great end of summer look because it would look great with jeans or shorts as I have it styled here.

Maxi Dress c/o | Bag | Sandals here, here, or here | Sunglasses | Earrings

Now can we talk abot this maxi dress? Believe it or not, this is the first maxi dress I have ever owned. I guess I’m just normally more of a fan of short dresses and skirts. What can I say, I like to show off my legs. I chose this dress because it was such a pretty print and I liked the style, and after wearing this dress all day my perspective is completely changed! This floral maxi dress is so comfortable and soft, I plan to wear it until it actually gets cold and I look ridiculous in floral. Gozon, thank you for introducing me to the wonders of the maxi dress!

Open Front Jacket c/o | Tank | Mott and Bow Jeans | Sandals | Necklace | Sunglasses | Bracelets here and here

This outfit is my favorite of the four I posted here. Earlier I said I wasn’t much of a girly girl, so this outfit is more my speed. As we move into fall, you’ll see more and more of my neutral, black and grey. This open front jacket is gorgeous and so fun to wear! Plus, it comes in four different colors!

Kimono c/o | Tank | Shorts | Sandals here, here, or here | Necklace here

Last but not least, we have the kimono. A stylish and transitional end of summer look that will take me through the rest of the season and into fall! If you caught on, I loved this print! It matches the maxi dress above! I couldn’t resist.

Thank you Gozon for partnering with me on this post, and  thank you, for supporting the brands that help make Running in Heels possible!

    Is Social Media Worth It?

    Is Social Media Worth It?

It’s just not worth it. How is that a job? They pay you to sit on Twitter all day? So do you just post to Facebook and that’s it? Is social media worth it?

I’ve heard it all. I find myself defending my profession every time I’m introduced to someone new. When people find out I do social media for a living, I’m written off because social media is not a profession that is easily understood. However, let me ask you this: If you met an aerospace engineer would you write them off because you didn’t understand their work? I’m asking for the same courtesy.

Why is it that what we do defines who we are so much? I’m happy with what I’ve done and proud of what I’ve built both in the workplace and on runninginheelsblog.com. It has been SO worth it for me, and I believe the businesses I work with at my 9-5 agree. So yes, social media is worth it.

Social media is just a more personal form of marketing. It connects brands to people, people to people, and information to people. All of which are vital to running a business. Building relationships with past and future customers gives you greater chance for purchase in the future. “74% of consumers rely of social networks to guide their purchase decisions.89% of messages to brands go ignored, if you respond, you’re better than that 89% because you are making that connection. This absolutely goes for bloggers too. So yes, it’s worth it. Social media should be built in to every business’s marketing plans and goals, and success doesn’t have to be determined based on your follower number, but the relationships you build and connections you keep which create repeat customers.

    Yellow Drop Waist Dress

    Yellow Drop Waist Dress

If you take a look in my closet you’ll see a lot of black, white, and grey, some denim, some pink, and recently a lot of blue. Something you won’t see? Yellow. People tend to gravitate towards hotter or cooler colors, and I’m definitely a cooler color person, BUT when I saw this yellow drop waist dress, I could not resist! The neon called my name, and I love drop waists. Neon is the exception to this rule, and for someone who doesn’t love bright colors, I really love neon!

This structured ruffle on this dress hits the perfect length to be short and sexy, but not too much. Plus the open back is so fun! I tried to style this for real life, so I added a bralette underneath. I so wish I could wear this without a bra, because I love an open back. This yellow drop waist dress is too loose to do that, though, so I’ll wear a cute one that is seen! I grabbed this one last year, but this one is the updated version for under $30! A last note on how I styled this look. Pink and yellow are a definite yes! These sandals from ZooShoo are amazing! So comfy and only $30!

We’re halfway through this week, and I think I’m going to throw this dress on for date night tonight. I need a fun look to take me though the rest of the week, and then I’m going to see my blogger friends in Nashville! How crazy is it that we’re all so close and have never met in person before? Stay tuned for instagram stories and introductions!

    Colored Tassel Dress

Colored Tassel Dress | Running in Heels

Happy Friday! I am thrilled it’s almost the weekend, it’s been a rough week at work, so I wanted to post a fun outfit for the weekend so I don’t have to think about it! I love wearing black and white, and I’m sure you’ll see plenty of it come fall. However, for the summer, which will be here in TX for a few more months, I like to keep a little color in my wardrobe! This colored tassel dress is the perfect option for running around town, or even the pool!

I styled this look as if I was doing both, errands and then the pool! I love this monogramed beach bag added to the colored tassel dress because it is neutral and balances out the tassels. This bag comes in a few different collors and prints, and was a part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale so it is still marked down for the next couple days! A lot of pieces sold out quickly from this sale, but there are still a few pieces that I love left! I’m done shopping the sale, but I am so happy with the pieces I decided to keep! What did you end up with?

Unfortunately I think it’s supposed to rain this weekend, but I’m still hoping for some pool time! Fingers crossed! What are you up to this weekend? I’m debating how I can keep my little bit of tan through the fall and winter. I’ve never had a s[ray tan, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Tell me your spray tan stories, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to hear them all so I can make an informed decision! I just feel better with a tn, don’t we all?

Frill Hem Skirt, Perfect for Spinning

Frill Hem Skirt | Running in Heels

I’m definitely a dancer. I mean, I grew up as a dancer, so wear a fun frilly skirt, I can’t help but twirl or spin! This frill hem skirt c/o Chicwish is perfect for spinning! I spun so much for these pictures most of them were blurry (I’m still figuring out this photography thing). I did manage to stand still for a few photos, though and how pretty is this outfit? I wore it to Dallas Blogger Brunch which I mentioned earlier this week, and received so many compliments!

Aside from being gorgeous it’s also really affordable, only $45! Chicwish has so many beautiful and affordable pieces, but there are a few best practices for ordering. I always read the fabric descriptions, reviews, and measurements and take them all seriously. I’m anti-online returns and want to get it right the first time, so I go as far as to get a tape measure and make sure it will fit. For reviews, I do read them, but also take everything with a grain of sale. I manage my clients’ reviews at work and there are always more bad than good, because people like to complain.

I really do love the pieces I receive from Chicwish. The clothes are great quality, and I have only had great experiences. I have been shopping at Chicwish since before I was a blogger, because of pieces I saw some of my favorite bloggers wearing. On Running in Heels, I only promote products and businesses that I love and believe in, and I hope I can bring you some great pieces that you choose to order as well!

Striped Bell Sleeves, Bows, and Velvet Mules

Striped Bell Sleeves | Running in Heels

If this isn’t a transitional outfit I wouldn’t know what else to call it! I think it’s pretty clear that striped bell sleeves are here to stay for a while, and I love finding new ways to wear them! There are two ways to do transition from Summer to Fall, tanks with long pants or long sleeves with shorts. I prefer the latter, so this outfit with striped bell sleeves is one of the best for transitioning this season!

I’m going to rewind for a minute because it is nowhere near Fall in Texas, and it will be shorts weather for at least 3 more months, however this striped bell sleeves top is great to wear now, and later! Don’t you just love when it works out like that? Plus it’s the perfect price at just under $40! Let’s talk about these mules for a minute. Even though it’s summer I’m, loving crushed velvet, so these mules definitely caught my eye. Plus they’re only $30! PS one of my favorite grabs from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is back in stock, so grab one while it’s still available and on sale!

This weekend I went to the Dallas Blogger Brunch at Lazy Dog, and met some amazing new friends and bloggers! I finally hit the pool this weekend! It was under 100 degrees which made for a great day to lay out with a good book! Are you guys reading anything lately? I’d love some recommendations!

Champion 40th Anniversary Special Edition Sports Bra

Champion 40th Anniversary Special Edition Sports Bra

I absolutely love workout clothes, and this Champion 40th Anniversary Special Edition, The Absolute Sports Bra (c/o), is so cool! I have to admit though, I have been really terrible about working out. I’ve been exercising on and off for the last year since I ran the Dallas Marathon. I really burned out with running 3 half marathons and 1 full in 18 months and honestly didn’t want to run or even move after that!

Let me clarify before I start here: I am healthy and active. I move around, I get my steps in, and I walk my dogs at least a mile every day. While that is not the same thing as exercise, it is better than nothing. This week I did get a fantastic workout at my client’s facility, which is actually for student athletes, so they really kicked my butt, yes I’m still sore! I really am working more at being healthy and fit, which is more important to me than being thin.

This Champion 40th Anniversary Special Edition Sports Bra was created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the sports bra, which makes it possible for women to be able to work out like men. Score one for Champion empowering women! I love that I get to be a part of this campaign! Now I just need to use it more! What do you do to keep motivated? What about getting out of a rut?

A Night Out Look: Micro-Pleated Top

    A Night Out Look: Micropleats

These past few weeks have been so exciting and fun! I’ve had dinners, events, birthday parties, and house-warmings to plan for and attend. The trouble with all of this is I don’t know what to wear! I choose most of my clothes based on whether or not I can wear it to work, which is where I spend the majority of my time outside of my apartment. I need my clothes to have multi-uses because I hate not being able to find multiple places to wear them! This micro-pleated top was perfect for this situation, because I can wear it out, as I have it styled here, or throw it on with jeans and a jacket, for work!

I have to admit, I was on the fence about this top. I mean, it isn’t super trendy, and I don’t need another cami to go out in, but honestly the fabric sold me. This micro-pleated top was so unique I had to try it on! Plus, I have had a thing for ribbon straps for years. (Refer to every piece I designed in college.)

I go in phases with going out. Honestly, I get tired of it all and need to decompress after a while. I call myself an extroverted introvert, meaning I want to go out and see people I have serious FOMO if I don’t. However that’s mixed with a serious need for alone time after seeing a lot of people. Most of the time my week is balanced and I spend most evenings hanging out with my boyfriend or my dogs, but some weeks, like this one I have events and plans where I need to find my balance elsewhere, which is where writing comes in. We all need an outlet, what is yours?

    Pretty in Pink: Crochet Dress

    Pretty in Pink: Crochet Dress

I have seen these crochet dresses everywhere this summer, and I just couldn’t help myself, I needed one too! This pink crochet dress c/o Chicwish was so pretty, and I’m loving blush this year, so it seemed perfect. I only have one more wedding this year, and I thought this pink crochet dress would be so pretty to wear!

Although this dress is gorgeous be careful with sizing. This didn’t actually fit me how I would have liked, you may have seen on my insta-story. This pink crochet dress is definitely for someone with boobs. Blunt, yes, but true. I chose an XS and it was large in the chest and a little short for the length. My best advice is to read the measurements first. So how cute is this jacket? I had my eye on it last year, but I had gotten a couple other pieces from the Nordstrom sale and this one didn’t make the cute and I ended up regretting it all year. So, this time around it was top of my list. Unfortunately it is curently sold out, but I linked a couple similar items below and will let you know as soon as it comes back in stock!

This weekend was great, I got a lot done planning and writing some blog posts (something I really struggle with) on Sunday. Saturday, I stopped at my friend Ryan‘s sip and shop party, and then went to lunch with a couple of blogger girls Nataly, and Vanessa! I tend to watch TV every night, weekend and basically whenever I have down time. Up until a few months ago I had never had Netflix and paid for cable until last month, so I’m new to this whole Netflix/Hulu thing. I’m finding so many shows but I seriously go though a whole season in an afternoon while I blog. What shows do you recommend?

2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Public Access: What to spend over $100 on

2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Public Access | Running in Heels

While there are so many amazing pieces to choose from in the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Public Access, if your were only going to buy one or two things I have an opinion on what that should be. There are few things I’ll spend more than $100 on, and that is still a lot of money to me, so I don’t take what I’m about to recommend lightly. I covered it a bit on my instagram, but there are really only 2 things you should spend over $100 on in the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Public Access:

    1. Denim: Luxury (otherwise known as “designer”) denim. I covered this a bit in my insta-stories, but the gist of it was. it’s worth it. I KNOW, that’s a lot of money for a pair of jeans, and yes, it is. However, if you are like me, and wear jeans most days of the week throughout the year, and sit/stand/walk/travel in your jeans, you’ll want these. Why? They last, they keep their shape, I’ve had 4 different brands of luxury denim for 3 years and they haven’t stretched, ripped, or faded in that time, and I wear each pair at least once a week. I chose distressed AGs for the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Public Access, but they have solid, un-ripped, classic pairs if it’s your first time and you’d like to test a more basic pair. Be careful though, you’ll be hooked!
    2. Outerwear: Jackets and coat’s I’ll also splurge on a bit, more out of necessity than anything. Winter coats and fall jackets don’t come cheap, especially in-season, so for this 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Public Access, try out a classic moto-style jacket like mine, or a long line look like I got last year. Of course depending on your weather needs choose what works best for you, but I love a moto jacket at all times of the year. This classic piece has shown up year after year in the Nordstrom Sale and continues to be a popular go-to!

Handbags and boots come around a lot and I agree are fantastic items to get on sale if you can. (Especially pre-season!) However, I wanted to focus on my favorites (believe me, I love shoes, but they go on sale more often than the above options, and change with the seasons quicker.

2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Public Access gets crazy at times, so do yourself a favor and order online to pick up in store (you can even try on and return/exchange pieces on the spot). You’ll avoid the chaos and reduce the chance that your pieces are sold out, and also be able to see all of your options with a clear(er) mind. I don’t know about you, but I get a little anxious around a lot of people going crazy and in my personal space. Plus it feels like so much pressure! (Hey, if you like that, the store is the place for you, but I’m not a mall person in general!)
