    Perspective on Blogging

    Perspective on Blogging

Let’s talk about perspective. There’s a lot of talk these days among bloggers about growth, sponsorships, payment, and things that we *should* be doing for the greater good; funding our blogs. Which I 100% support. However, I have to wonder if we aren’t looking at this all wrong.

New bloggers pop up daily, and our market is getting inundated. In my humble opinion, I think that while we are all hardworking entrepreneurs, we have to remember a few things. I’m not trying to be negative. I’m sure that some people will think that I am, but as much as we think we deserve, and how entitled I see people acting, I just wanted to bring some perspective back to myself and our business again.

First I’ll explain why I decided to write this post. I recently received an email from a brand I had wanted to work with. I went back and forth with them and ultimately ended with us not partnering because they said they have stopped paying for posts. Many bloggers would cheer for this, because as I told the brand, and I do agree, we need to show our value. However now, from my perspective, I didn’t get a product I wanted. And not only will I actually have to purchase it and the brand loses nothing at all. They’ll find someone else to work with in 2 seconds.

Let’s look at blogging like it is a company. We start as interns and work for free to gain experience. We  start at the ground floor and work our way up. Sure, some people excel right away, they know someone, get raises, promotions, and impress the bosses, quicker than other. Most of us go along on a smooth path of incremental growth, and some don’t go anywhere at all. For the sake of this post I’m going to focus on the middle group. Why would someone who is in their first year be chosen for a promotion, when someone from the middle tier, with more experience and larger following could produce a larger return? Yes, they cost more, but you’re paying for their experience, and often times a stat that you can’t see, website visitors.

Yes, there is merit to using micro-influencers and mid-tier bloggers, why? They tend to have more engaged followings, but also they’re less expensive. From a brand’s perspective, they can give away thousands of products at minimal cost, but adding thousands of dollars to their marketing budget hits them harder, so they have to choose wisely where to spend it. Influencer marketing may be growing, but budgets are not. If a brand can’t see a direct ROI, they may believe it’s not working. I’m a social media manager, and it is my job on a daily basis to remind my clients that brand awareness is just as important as actually booking a call. However, it’s much harder to measure brand awareness than it is click on an ad. It is the constant struggle of a marketing department in a company is to prove that their efforts are working.

There’s just one thing that isn’t always taken into account when comparing rates and demanding we all be paid: Time. It’s so hard to remember, that major bloggers didn’t just wake up with 100k followers. We live in a world of instant gratification, but what we don’t see from everyone else is how long they’ve been at it, and how hard they have worked to get where they are. It’s easy for someone blogging for years to say that they should be paid for posts, but when they say it to those of us in our first year, we feel entitled to something that is unrealistic. Because the people that are being paid are those with more experience.

I’m not saying I’m happy with it, or even believe that we all need to start accepting product as payment, but I like working with brands that have the same values as I do. I enjoy creating relationships that could become lucrative in the future. Finally, I have fewer than 20k followers. I am not even in the top half of follower counts on Instagram, and have plenty of room to grow before I start demanding money. All that being said, I HAVE worked hard growing my following. I DO think I should be compensated for my influence and time, but maybe not to the degree I’ve been led to believe.

I’d love to hear your thoughts below. I understand this is a controversial topic. It has been stressing me out and I wanted to get this off my chest. Plus, what is my blog if only a place to express my thoughts?

    Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal

    Daily Moisture Renewal

Let’s talk about something really important today: my hair. Just kidding, my hair is probably not that important to anyone but me, but in all honesty, it should be! No, not my hair per se, but what I use to take care of it. My hair is something that makes me confident and its something I love about myself. We all have those things, don’t we? So taking care of it is really important to maintaining that confidence. That’s why, when Pantene reached out about their new shampoos, they sent me the Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner. I was so excited to try it! Aside from Priyanka Chopra being their spokesperson, (because I love Quantico, anyone else a fan?) the name Daily Moisture Renewal really just says it all!

Daily Moisture Renewal In the Shower

Since I started using the Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner I’ve noticed how soft and smooth my hair is! The shampoo was great, and seriously cleans my hair so well. It was so easy to run my fingers right through my thick hair, even before using the conditioner. I used it after we spent the weekend at the lake, glamping, and it seriously cleaned out all of bugs, dirt, and pollen that got in there from spending more time outdoors than I have since I was a kid! Once I ran the conditioner through, it was even softer and smoother. I could tell even while it was still wet! Even better, once my hair dried, there was nothing but soft and smooth hair, no residue or weird feeling that some moisture shampoos leave.

Daily Moisture Renewal During the Day

I can’t believe how smooth my hair was in the morning. (I wash my hair at night, otherwise it takes forever to blow dry!) It was also minimally tangled after sleeping on it and so easy to style! Sometimes if my hair care routine isn’t great, my hair will look frizzy or coarse in the morning, and I’ll have to use heat to smooth it out. When I use Daily Moisture Renewal I can leave the house without damaging my hair further.

Overall, the Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner is so great for my hair and my confidence. I love sharing the products that make me feel like my best self, and the outfits that go with them! Speaking of, this outfit is a super fun spring and summer look, you can shop my hair products and my outfit below!

Glamping with Pets- Cedar Creek Lake

Glamping with Pets- Cedar Creek Lake

A couple of weeks ago, Kale and I decided to take our dogs and go away for a weekend. When I first brought up the idea of glamping, Kale had no idea what I was talking about. When I explained we would head to a cabin with Elie and Mia (my dogs) and Pierre (his dog) he was on board! Glamping with Pets provided me with a gift card, and we decided on a short weekend trip.

Glamping with Pets made it really easy to filter our options and choose the minimum nights and price limits as well as a radius of how far we were willing to travel. Our dogs, having never been in a car for any extended period of time, we decided to not go farther than an hour or so away from Dallas. That is how we landed at Cedar Creek Lake in Tool, or the middle of nowhere, Texas.

Our cabin was a part of an RV park right off of the lake. We had a tiny one room hut, perfect for us and the dogs to sleep in. There were really cute yurts, cabins, and glampsites on the Glamping with Pets website, and if we were to take more time and money and do it again, I’d love to try some of those! Anyways, we unpacked and walked around with the dogs to get the lay of the land. We found horseshoes and I learned to play, during the game the pups were chasing the horseshoes thinking we were actually playing with them.

That night, we had a fun cookout which the dogs were all for since they got the extra hot dogs, and my personal favorite, s’mores! For the night, we ignored our phones, left the laptops at home, and just paid attention to each other and our dogs. It was a beautiful night where we could watch the dogs, star-gaze and really just relax, which we don’t do much with all of the distractions in our lives. After dinner we actually had no idea what to do with ourselves, I mean what do you do without a television or computer these days? You go to bed at 9pm, that’s what. And it was fantastic.

The next day, despite our early bedtime, we didn’t wake up early. The dogs were antsy to get outside again, so we took another long walk around the neighborhood, then headed to a local park where we learned is the best place to find public lake access. It was Easter Sunday, so there weren’t many activities available, but the dogs enjoyed being by the water and the extra walks! Finally, we hopped in the car and drove home with the 3 pups panting away in the back seat.

Overall, our trip was really fun! I’d like to try some of Glamping with Pets other locations to get another, different experience, but we are totally on board to do this again! Traveling with pets is not the easiest thing, but it is the best! They don’t have to stay home, and you don’t have to pay a dog sitter. I would take my dogs with me on every trip if I could, and now with Glamping with Pets, I might be able to!

    Gingham Dress with a Bow

    gingham and bows

Happy Friday! I can’t tell you how happy I am that it is (almost) the weekend! I absolutely love this pretty gingham dress with a Bow! Plus you can’t beat the price, it’s under $50! It is top of my packing list for vacation! (Ok it’s right behind swimsuits and flip-flops!) I can just picture this dress at dinner on a beach… can’t you? Or what about a patio? Both are going to happen, regardless, I can’t wait!

Gingham seems to be one of the major prints popping up this season. Big, small, micro- like my dress, it’s everywhere! It’s also blue, or at least it is in my closet. I already mentioned this, but I really think that blue is becoming my color! It’s been in a ton of my last few posts, check it out here, here, and here!

I had an early morning again today, so I can’t believe that I am even awake now! Extra coffee gets me through these days, and the reminder that it is almost the weekend! It is looking like a beautiful one, and I cannot wait for it! I might even wear this gingham dress! What are you plans? Any gingham in your future?

    Big Sleeves and Big Bows

Happy Hump day! It’s been so beautiful here with 70-80 degree weather, so I’m breaking out the shorts, sandals, and my new big sleeves and bows top from SheIn!  I love this look so much because it’s light, airy, and so trendy and cute. The bows are pretty much my favorite, because if you know anything about me, you know I love bows! While I’m not a super girly girl, bows, bell sleeves and ruffles are really fun for this season!

I paired these big sleeves with my current favorite crochet hem shorts, and my bow tie sandals. It matches perfectly with my sunglasses what seem to reflect perfectly in the light! While I won’t be wearing this top to work, it will be so cute for patio days and date nights! (Just like tonight when we went for sushi!)

This week is going by so quickly! Which is really surprising considering how it started, with my car mess! I can’t wait for the weekend. What are you looking forward to?

Blue Ombre Dress for Spring and Summer

I am beyond thrilled with this beautiful spring weather we’ve been having. It makes me want to pull out all of my pretty bright dresses and skirts! This blue ombre dress recently found its way into my closet thanks to Majestii Clothing. It is light, airy, and the color that has been flooding my closet this season, blue! I’m not even sure how it happened, but I am now a blue person, and I find myself gravitating towards it for spring over my usual grey tones. It’s got to be the weather and my excitement for vacation!

I paired this blue ombre dress with black accessories, mostly because I wanted the dress to stand out on its own, and because they are some of my favorite pieces. I mean, are you guys sick of this bag yet? I’m not, I actually love it and use it every weekend! Same with these wedges. I though I was getting them because of FOMO, but really they match everything and are super comfy, so perfect for an easy spring/summer look!

This blue ombre dress reminds me of the ocean, so it is absolutely perfect for our trip! I’ll surely be wearing it on the beach with my toes in the sand! A much different trip from this weekend when we went glamping! More on that to come in another post, though. This weekend was great, but I definitely wasn’t wearing a dress with the dogs in the middle of nowhere Texas. We spent our Easter wandering around Tool, TX and driving back from our mini getaway. Once we were back, we watched a movie and then made dinner and celebrated Easter with our little furry family.

Striped One Shoulder Top: Seeing Hearts

Seeing Hearts in My Striped One Shoulder Top

I have already expressed my love for one shoulder ruffle tops and stripes, so now that it’s getting even warmer out, I’m loving them even more! How cute is this striped one shoulder top from Nordstrom? I mean, seriously it’s got the ruffle, stripes, and of course, the cutest style of the moment. This one shoulder ruffle top is perfect for a drink at the Standard Pour, which happens to be right on the other side of the LiketoKnow.it He(art) wall! By the way, how adorable is it?! I am so excited this wall will be here in Dallas all summer, so expect to see much more of it on Running in Heels!

I had intended to write a blogging tips post today, but the reason I moved them to once a month was so I could put more though and focus into them, and I really didn’t feel like that was what was going to happen for this one, so I’m putting it off until next week, I hope that’s ok! That gives you more time to send in questions for me to cover anyways! So let’s just focus on this striped one shoulder top for now!

This weekend Kale and I are taking the dogs camping glamping. I’m really excited about it and can’t wait, but also a little interested to see how the dogs handle each other and the hour-long car ride! Hey everyone loves s’mores, so we’ll be fine, right? I’m packing tons of activewwear and a bathing suit for water activities, but probably not this striped one shoulder top. My biggest concern is actually getting eaten by mosquitos. I’m one of those people who just gets attacked by bugs! But I honestly am so exited for this weekend! Plus I get to try out my new camera!

    Striped Jumpsuit for A Wedding

    Striped Jumpsuit for A Wedding

A couple of weeks ago, I wore this jumpsuit to my first wedding. Since then you have all been loving this striped jumpsuit every time I post it! I mean, I don’t blame you, it’s so cute, comfy, and when it is under $30, how can you go wrong? We know I’m into black and white, but I did try to spice this look up with fun earrings!

I’m still trying to recover from my sick day, both in my health and just catching up on work/blog work. For being off one day, it  really takes a while to get everything back up and running! However, I really wanted to share this look with you all since it was a favorite on Instagram and at the wedding, as well as one of my favorite pieces I’ve worn in a while. As a blogger I get sent a lot of clothes and I’m constantly shopping for new pieces to post, its funny, sometimes I forget to shop for things to wear for real life events! When it came to my first wedding I was actually really excited to find this striped jumpsuit and wear it!

In my expert opinion, after having gone to two whole weddings in my adult life, (yes, both in the last two weeks) is that weddings are like Prom for adults, except the king and queen are pre-chosen. I mean, you have a date, you make sure you match and take tons of photos together. You eat a fancy dinner, watch the “court” do their thing, and of course, you dance! That sounds like prom to me! Luckily in most cases you can subtract the high school drama, or at least avoid it, and there are more parents and kids around. However, a striped jumpsuit is not likely to be worn to prom, but is totally acceptable to wear to weddings!

    Pom Poms and Distressed Denim

    Pom poms and distressed denim

Confession: I have an obsession with pom poms! I saw this shirt and fell in love with it! I mean, how cute is this little tank with pom poms?! The shirt itself is so soft and a really thin and light material for summer. I wore it while we were in Austin, and you’ll probably be seeing much more of it for my coming trips!

I’m finally feeling a bit better after having a bug for the last couple of days. I didn’t have an appetite, so that’s when you know I’m sick. I’m always snacking on something! So after a ton of sleep, a little soup, and a lot of water and dog snuggles I’m almost back to normal. The weird thing was I took a break from instagram for 24hrs and didn’t write a Monday post, which I haven’t done for a long time. I’m sure no one even missed me on either of those channels, but it felt weird to be gone! I truly love blogging and social media, but sometimes we all need a break, especially when we’re sick.

Working so hard all the time can take a huge toll on us, and we all need to remember that we’re only human and we only have 24hrs in a day. One of my goals after all of this is to start going to bed at a more normal hour. I’m such a night owl and hate leaving things unfinished before bed, so I’ll stay up as late as I need to until it’s finished!

24 Hours in Austin, TX for a Wedding

Last weekend, Kale and I went to Austin, TX for a wedding. We had an amazing time, and enjoyed our short trip! We arrived with an hour to get ready and jump on the shuttle to the ceremony, so there wasn’t much time to explore beforehand. Once we were on the bus we were shuttled about ten minutes to Pecan Springs Ranch. This venue was gorgeous and perfect for an outdoor country wedding. There was a cute little house for the bride and her bridesmaids to get ready, an adorable area for the ceremony in front of an outdoor fireplace, and an entire open yard lit up with gorgeous string lights! There was an adorable photo-area in front of the “Love Shack” with the lit up LOVE sign, and outdoor seating for the perfect Austin, TX night we had! They also had the yard equipped with corn hole and giant Jenga so we could watch the sunset and play games before going in to dance the night away!

The next morning we woke up not feeling our best, but made it downstairs to a regrettable hotel breakfast which we left even more hungry than we arrived. So we made our way to Rainey St. to eat at Banger’s. Cold brew coffee and BBQ sausage and mashed potatoes? Yep, that’s a good meal, but hey it hit the spot! After lunch we found Peter Pan Mini Golf which was a blast! Before heading out I had to make one last stop: There’s one thing I’ve made a habit of when I visit Austin, TX, and that is a visit to Voodoo Doughnut! If you’ve never been, they make really great donuts and cover them with various cookies/candies/cereals making them even more amazing. Their pink boxes say “Good things come in pink boxes,” and all I have to say is, isn’t that the truth? Clearly I like to eat, which will be a theme in these Travel posts, but I hope you enjoyed my first one this season! Please comment below with anything you’d like to see more of as my Travel posts continue!
