Braids are some of my favorite hairstyles! I love adding fun accessories to my hairstyles, and the holidays are the best times to add unexpected accessories! I’m sharing 4 fun holiday accessories I found around my house at Christmas time. So many of these holiday hair accessories could be used with many hairstyles, so today I’m sharing just a couple of examples that would be perfect for the holidays!
Holiday Hair Accessories to Wear in Your Braids
Gift Bows
For this holiday hair look, I created a side dutch braid. Start with a small section of hair on the side of your head. Split into three sections and dutch braid until you reach the back of your head. Secure with a rubber band, then, if you wish, pull the braid out to make it bubbly.
Grab a gift bow, leave the adhesive on, and attach a bobby pin to the back. Finally, pin the bow over the top of the rubber band and that’s all!
Branch Garland / Mistletoe
Pull the top layer of your hair to the back of your head, and secure with a rubber band. Next start to fishtail braid your ponytail. Once you reach the bottom secure with another rubber band, then, if you wish, pull the braid out to make it larger. Then take your garland pieces and add bobby pins to the end (larger ones work best for this). Finally, pin the garland to the top of your braid.
Mini Ornaments Make the Perfect Holiday Hair Accessories
When I saw these mini ornaments in the store, the first thing I thought of was how perfect they would be for hair accessories! For this look, we are creating a loose pull-through braid. Start with a low ponytail. Split into two sections horizontally and place the bottom section out of the way. Then split the top into two more sections, wrap your top pieces around the bottom section, and secure behind with a rubber band. Split the next section into two and then wrap it around the ponytail behind it. Continue until you reach the bottom of your hair. Finally, secure with another rubber band as you would any other braid.
Grab your ornaments and bobby pins, then slide the bobby pins into the top of the ornament where the tree hook would go. Push the bobby pin vertically down into the top of your ponytail. You can do this anywhere along your braid for a fun effect!
Use Gift Ribbon
Measure three pieces of ribbon at least the length of your hair. Wrap all three pieces around a single bobby pin several times and cut off the short end so it doesn’t stick out. Pick up the top layer of your hair and pin the ribbon underneath. Split that top layer into three pieces and pick up a ribbon with each section. Start to dutch braid your hair trying not to cover the ribbon as you go. Once you reach the bottom, secure with a rubber band. Pull the sections looser and make sure to pull the ribbon out so you can see it over top of your hair.
Love the braid with mistletoe idea! It looks so fun and effortless! Thanks for sharing and keep it up!
