18 Best Date Ideas In Dallas

Best Date Ideas In Dallas

I moved to Dallas right out of college and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. As unexpected as not only moving here but staying here for 10 years now was, it ended up being such an amazing city. Dallas is known for the great food in incredible restaurants, the Cowboys, Mavs, and Stars, as well as the ridiculous summer heat. Dallas is a beautiful city and has endless options for romantic, exciting, fun, and out-of-the-box dates. Whether you live here or are visiting, there are tons of fun things to do, and today I’m sharing some of the best date ideas for your perfect date in and around Dallas.

18 Best Date Ideas In Dallas

Paddle Boarding at White Rock Lake

Looking for an active date? Grab your life vests and head to White Rock Lake! You can rent paddle boards or kayaks and paddle around the lake (don’t worry, life vests are included). It’s a great activity to do outdoors and on the water, especially in the summer and fall when the water will be cool enough to chill out and warm enough to not be shocking. Dallas Paddle Co. is a fun way to enjoy the water and be active.

Find a Rooftop

I love a casual day to sit atop a rooftop and watch the sunset while eating amazing food. There is nothing better than getting to know someone or just enjoying yourself with a date, a cocktail or glass of wine, and a great view. I have a whole post about my favorite Dallas rooftop restaurants so head over there to see some of the best spots to enjoy!

Food Trucks at Truck Yard

Truck Yard is such a fun spot! You can grab your friends for a double date or go by yourselves, but I have never been to Truck Yard and not run into someone I know! Truck Yard is an awesome casual spot to enjoy some music, food trucks and drinks. You can even bring your pups because it is super dog-friendly. If your date loves dogs, you can bring your own or see tons there!

Bring Your Pups to Ice House

Ice House is a Dallas staple, I bring everyone new to the city here. Right off of Katy Trail, Ice House is a popular spot for dogs and humans alike. They have awesome barbecue and are just a great place to enjoy a date and get to know someone. See this post for more dog friendly patios in Dallas!

Walk on Katy Trail

Maybe you’re on your way to Ice House or Tequila Social, but maybe you’re both looking for some exercise! Grab your date, water, and sunscreen and enjoy a walk on Katy Trail. Of course, dogs are welcome as well, but mine always were very distracted trying to smell everything and meet all of the people and dogs we passed.

Sports Game

While not a ‘get to know you’ date, a Rangers, Mavs, or Stars game is such good time and a really fun date night! We love going to games for a fun date, and different type of activity. Cheer on your team and enjoy the camaraderie with your date through out the sports season. It will give you something to bond over throughout your relationship.

Visit the Farmer’s Market

There are several different farmer’s markets in different DFW cities, the largest and best known being the Dallas Farmer’s Market. It is so fun walking around getting some fresh fruits and veggies for the week. You can also find great vendors for jams, salsa, sauces, and products like candles, jewelry, and more! There is something for everyone, and its always great to support local vendors and farmers!

Go to a Comedy Show

Comedy shows are a great date night idea! Laughing with your date can be a fun activity to forget about the stressors of life and work. Whether you have been together for weeks or years, a comedy show can be such a great time. There are tons of options, a few great ones are Dallas Comedy Club, Addison Improv, and TK’s Comedy Club.

Sing Along at the Piano Bar

One of our favorite nights out is to Pete’s Piano Bar! It is such a fun night to enjoy on a date, you can sing and dance along, request songs for each other and enjoy a fun night out. Pete’s Piano Bar is all over Texas, but in DFW they are newly at The Star in Frisco.

Trivia Night

Ready for a competitive evening? Bring your date to a trivia night! Dallasites has a great round up of trivia nights for every night of the week, so click here for their recommendations all over DFW! Trivia night is so fun for a challenge and get to know what random trivia your date knows! You can learn a lot about a person on trivia night. I personally love seeing how competitive everyone gets!

Indoor Skydiving

If you are looking for more of an adventurous date idea, grab your partner and head over to Indoor Skydiving in Frisco! This sounds absolutely terrifying to me, but much better than actual skydiving. I recommend not surprising your date with this one, and preparing them ahead of time, but either way it would be a great time for those seeking an adrenaline rush!

Mini Golf

We just had the most fun date night at Popstroke in The Colony, you buy a daypass, grab a drink and can go through the two mini golf courses as many times as you want before they close! They also have a restaurant, cornhole, table tennis, and more lawn games for your entertainment. While it is open to all ages, it was definitely more adults than children. It was such a fun time to compete and play together! Other courses around the area are Puttery, Monster Mini Golf, and Puttshack.

Top Golf

I love a Top Golf date! This is usually a group activity, so grab some friends or other couples and rent a bay. It is much more challenging than mini golf as you do need to know how to swing a club decently, but it could be a fun teaching moment if your date is willing to learn. It is a great social activity, too in between shots, grab a drink and some food and enjoy the conversation! Top Golf usually has heaters so it’s great most of the year!

Visit a Museum

Head oer to the arts district because Dallas has a ton of great museums! From art museums like the Dallas Museum of Art, DMA, natural history museum The Perot, and historical museums like Dallas Holocaust Museum, African American Museum, and The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza, you can’t go wrong. These Dallas museums are all great options for date night, so find out what your date’s interest lie and choose the best option! The DMA is known to have amazing art and fashion exhibits, and The Perot hosts Thursday’s On Tap, a 21+ event with food trucks, drinks, and no kids. You can even walk over to Klyde Warren Park before or after to enjoy the park or see what events are happening!

Dallas Arboertum

We have visited the Dallas Arboretum so many times, and the best part about it, is it changes throughout the seasons. I love when it is full of pumpkins in the Fall, and the gorgeous Christmas displays in the winter. Of course the gardens are gorgeous all year round, and it is a beautiful and calming place to walk around and enjoy each other’s company.

Enjoy all Trinity Forest has to Offer

Trinity Forest is one of the nation’s largest urban hardwood forests, primarily owned by the City of Dallas. There is so much to do there from an Adventure Park to hiking trails, to a Trinity Forest Brewing Company. Minutes away from downtown Dallas you can find a gorgeous outdoor area of over 6000 acres with great hiking trails and a natural spring- Big Spring new historic landmark. If you’re outdoorsy and hikers this would be a great spot for you, but also if you like to enjoy nature from a nation with a beer in hand, Trinity Forest is for you too!

Visit the Mandalay Canals

Pretend like you’re in Venice, Italy on the Mandalay Canals! There is so much to do in the area, from Gondola rides, to paddle boarding, to enjoying waterfront restaurants. You can even take a stroll around Lake Carolyn for something both active and free! Mandalay Canals provide a unique experience in Dallas/Fort Worth creating an interesting and exciting environment to enjoy on a date.

Enjoy Texas Discovery Gardens

Hop over to Fair Park to enjoy a butterfly house, gardens, snakes and reptile shack, and water feature at the Texas Discovery Gardens! There are tons of opportunities to enjoy nature as well as an art gallery. There is no shortage of things to do, you could spend all day here!
