Fishtail braids may look difficult, but they are actually really simple to do on yourself! I think braids are a great heatless style to wear for a fun different style any day of the week! Keep scrolling for my fishtail braid tutorial!
Braids are my favorite because you can make them short or all the way down your hair, half-up, loose down the side of your hair, or even tight to your head in french braid style. Plus there are so many options for accessories! I love mixing in a scarf or scrunchie with a scarf to complete the look!
How to do A Fishtail Braid on Yourself
Fishtail Braid Step 1: Brush Hair
With a fishtail braid, you need your hair to be super smooth and tangle free. Brush your hair thoroughly and product-free is best.
Fishtail Braid Step 2: Separate
Separate hair into two sections. I usually swing my braid to one side of my head right below my ear. Wherever you want the braid to lay, make sure your hair is sitting there and smooth on top as well.
Fishtail Braid Step 3: Braid
Next step is to start the braid! As your hair is in two sections, pull one small piece from side A and move it across the middle over to side B. Then take out a new small piece from side B and move it across the middle to side B. Continue down your hair until your braid is complete!
Fishtail Braid Step 4: Secure
Use an elastic to hold the bottom of your fishtail braid and spray with your favorite hairspray to hold! My current favorite hairspray is Moroccan Oil’s Luminous Hairspray.
Fishtail Braid Step 5: Optional Styling
Once your braid is secured with a rubber band, you have the option to pull pieces out to make the braid larger, more bubbly, and appear fuller. Just pull out pieces along the braid just make sure the ends of the pieces stay secure in the rubber band.
