I am loving the crop top trend. They are so versatile and you can wear them however you feel comfortable. Unlike the 90’s and early 00’s, I love showing a sliver of upper tummy and ribs vs the old school hip bone area. For me, crop tops are such a fun way to be sexy and flirty without showing too much skin… or showing tons of skin!
How to Wear a Crop Top
Crop tops come in so many different styles they can be paired with just about anything, and ‘how to wear’ them, as always, my favorite response, ‘it depends’ on your personal style and comfort level. I remember growing up in the late ’90s and early 00’s when 10 Things I hate about you, Clueless, and Mean Girls was popular. The crop tops were a big trend trend and definitely wanted to hop on the bandwagon, but my parents crushed my fashion dreams citing my age, though now I wonder often what is the right age, and am I now too old? I think not, now is the time to embrace our bodies and wear exactly what you want to wear.
Can I wear a crop top without showing my belly?
Yes! All you need is bottoms with a higher waist. I love crop tops with midi skirts, shorts, jeans, or wide-leg pants! Since there is no overlap with crop tops, you should be comfortable with a tiny bit of skin showing when you move since it’s almost inevitable. In the photos below, I’m wearing a burnt orange crop top with a midi skirt, and part of the time there is no skin showing, and some of the time it’s only a tiny bit, but it is possible!
What are the Best Crop Tops?
I could never choose just one! I love all of the crop tops pictured here and so many more. Keep reading to hear about some of my favorites. Since there are so many options I couldn’t possibly cover them all in one post. Comment your favorite crop tops below!
Amazon Lemedy Crop Top
This amazon crop top is great for active or just when you’re out in the heat and want to be comfortable. I love this one because it has a built-in shelf bra and I don’t have to wear one otherwise. I talked more about it in an activewear sense in this post about long line sports bras, but since I have it in 3 colors now, I wanted to post an update about how I’ve worn it otherwise. If you’re new here, I’m not the biggest fan of amazon fashion and explain a bit more in this post, but this top has been a fantastic addition to my wardrobe and I need everyone to know!
Pictured here, I’ve worn this top to the AT&T Byron Nelson and all day in Disney World. It was the perfect comfortable top to wear in the heat both times.
Express Crop Tops
The satin crop top pictured below is great for a dinner or garden-type party where you want to look nice. Though it is stretchy in the back, I would not wear it in a situation where I might sweat, because I think it would get uncomfortable not being very stretchy otherwise.
Pictured below this satin option is a ribbed crop top with a sweetheart neckline which is super flattering. I love the neon color for summer but there are a few other options in color as well. The ribbing makes it appear more casual so I would stick to shorts, a skort, or more casual situation in which to wear it.
Lulu’s Crop Tops
I’ll admit I don’t shop at Lulu’s too often for day to day clothing. I typically think of them for gowns and occasion dresses, but once in a while I find a great piece and I wear it a ton. I love this burnt orange top, it has a high neckline and low back and is the perfect option for a crop top without showing too much stomach. As you can see in these photos, there is not even half an inch of skin between my top and skirt, making it the perfect dinner-date outfit, which is where I wore it after we stopped at Kay Jewelers to pick up my engraved watch celebrating my MBA graduation.
