How to Wear the Animal Print Trend this Fall

Ok, I’m finally on board with the animal print trend, but I still don’t want it to be a super loud part of my outfits. Today I’m sharing how I am wearing the animal print trend this fall.

How to Wear the Animal Print Trend

There are so many animal print pieces in stores right now, you can easily work the animal print trend into your wardrobe. It’s so simple to just go out and purchase a cheetah print sweater or snakeskin skirt, however, what if you’re like me, and it’s a new trend for you? What if you prefer your prints in a smaller, less obvious form, or hardly at all?

That’s where this post comes in. Sure, you can throw on a leopard print cardigan and call it a day, but I’m sharing more creative and inventive ways to work animal print into your wardrobe so you can stay true to your style and still be on-trend.

1. Accessorize with Animal Print:

Accessories help make even the most boring outfits interesting. I love pairing an animal print belt with an otherwise solid look! The accessory you choose can be anything from a belt to a headband to a bag. I would stick with one or maybe two pieces, and use the same animal print. Check out my YouTube video for a different look with this snakeskin belt as an accessory!

2. Make Animal Print the Hero Piece:

Wearing animal print is a bold look, make it count by wearing animal print as the hero piece of your outfit. The “hero” piece just means that it is the most important piece of your outfit. You choose the piece and style the rest of your outfit around it.

You don’t have to choose a monochrome outfit like I did below. The monochrome obviously helps to draw the eye to the print, however, choosing darker colors when the print is lighter, go more neutral with a colored animal print piece, or even wearing an animal print with a completely solid outfit of several colors can really make the print pop.

3. Mix your Prints

No, not just any prints. Print mixing is actually very simple and there is only one rule to stick to. The key to print mixing successfully is to mix a large print with a small print.

I would personally stay away from mixing multiple different animal prints. They can be the same print (big cheetah and small cheetah) or different (snakeskin and stripes) but make sure your colors coordinate and it looks intentional.

My favorite fashion tip is to tell people: “Whatever you wear, do it on purpose.” Which means just to wear whatever you choose with confidence. Make good choices and then own them all day long. Wear black and navy together, wear polka dots with stripes, just be sure you’re confident in your look and own it!

4. Sneak your Animal Print In:

Look for prints that aren’t too obvious. I loved this black jacquard All Saints dress with an almost-hidden cheetah print! It was too perfect, and I can wear it even if the animal print trend goes out of style because most people barely notice its there. There are tons of styles like this out now, so it’s the perfect way to dip your toes into animal print in case.

5. Elevate the Look with Animal Print

Animal prints do have a reputation for being cheap, so when shopping, choose your pieces wisely! Make sure you’re choosing good quality pieces that will look great and elevate your look. That doesn’t mean that the pieces have to be expensive, though! If you read this post, you know I like to invest in my basics, but not spend much on my trendier pieces, so animal print, being a trend, I purchased a lot of sale or inexpensive items.
