How to Spend A Weekend in San Antonio

How to Spend A Weekend in San Antonio

Last month Kale and I met my parents in San Antonio. We drove down on a Friday and had the best weekend in the little city. I loved the historic look and feel. It’s so nice to see the preserved character and history of it all! Keep reading to see how to spend a weekend in San Antonio like we did!

I’ll start with the two obvious tourist attractions and are definitely on the do-not-miss list: The Riverwalk and The Alamo. The Riverwalk is such a fun and beautiful place! There are restaurants and bars all up and down the walk. Local places and much-loved chains from Joe’s Crab Shack to fancy Italian restaurants, you can find anything you want and then some. All of the restaurants have a gorgeous view of the water and many have two stories of patio seating so you can always be right on the river. I will say that none of the food was absolutely amazing-need-to-try, so I’ll just recommend stopping at the place with the best view for your weekend in San Antonio.

The Alamo was really interesting to see. Coming from someone who did not grow up in Texas and learn all about it in the Teas History class, I found wandering the grounds and learning about the battle amazing. Let me save you the $5 and hours of “fun” DO NOT take the tour. It is 100% not worth it. Our tour guide was boring, drone on for hours, went on random tangents, and somehow insulted all of our intelligence for a solid two hours (the tour was only supposed to be an hour). Take my advice, walk around on your own and read the signs- you’ll learn the same thing in a lot less time and with a lot less complaining. Be sure to also check out the Long Barracks Museum on The Alamo grounds. I would recommend going right when they open in the morning so there is fewer people.

So what else is there to do when you spend a weekend in San Antonio? I’m always a fan of wandering around a city and stumbling into places. We went to the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, which has one of the largest and most unique collections of horns and antlers in the world. I’m not huge on animals looking at me while I eat, but it was quite an impressive collection! While we were there, the San Antonio Crawl for Cancer was going on, and after all of our tourist antics were over, we thought it would be fun to grab a drink. We hopped around to a few bars, and everywhere we went, the Crawl followed us! It made for a fun afternoon, and Kale and I got excited for our own crawl in Dallas which is this coming weekend!

My family is big on shows, so if there is a show to see, chances are, we have tickets! My mom found the coolest performance for us to see while in San Antonio! It was the San Antonio Orchestra playing the soundtrack along to the La La Land movie. I had never been to see an orchestra before, but if I were to do it again, I would 100% do it with a movie. I think I would enjoy the orchestra either way, but as first timers, me, my mom, my dad, and Kale all enjoyed it equally! While that show has since ended, I definitely recommend to look up what you can see at the Majestic Theater while you are in town. It made for a nice night out and different than just dinner and drinks. We kept it casual too. you saw all sorts of outfits, but we were not prepared for a semi-formal event, which ended up being just fine!
