Last year, Kale and I traveled to Orlando and drove out to the coast to see Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral. It was such an amazing trip, and there is so much more to do, I wanted to share how much fun it can be with you all! The video below shows our trip, and I’ve outlined below our favorite activities and even more things to do on the Space Coast!
Top 10 Things to Do on the Space Coast: a Complete Travel Guide
Visit the Cocoa Beach Pier
We stopped at the Cocoa Beach Pier every day while we were in Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral! We absolutely loved this spot because it was close enough to walk to, right on the water, and had several stops for restaurants and drinks!
Play a Round of Golf
Kale loves to golf, so when he realized the Cocoa Beach Country Club there was no stopping him! He loved this course on the island but said there was a lot of wind. He was also told to watch out for gators in the cart! It’s a great way to spend a morning or afternoon, you can even rent clubs!
Tan on the Beach
My favorite past times on the beach are to do absolutely nothing! Luckily, our Air BnB had chairs we could bring to the beach, so we grabbed them and walked down to the ocean! I always bring a book to read, sunscreen, and a hat. One day we went to the beach, it was super windy, and the sand was painful hitting us! I’d keep an eye on the weather and skip the super windy days!
Drive Down the Coast
We rented a convertible on Turo and drove from Orlando to Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach! The views were amazing and the ocean breeze was exactly what we needed on vacation!
Try Your Hand at Surfing
We didn’t take our chances on the waves this time, but I would so love to learn if we go back! We did only spend a few days here so there wasn’t enough time for all of the activities, but the surfing near the pier was great!
Visit the Kennedy Space Center
The Kennedy Space Center was amazing when we went, but don’t be fooled, rocket launches aren’t as common as you’d think. It’s splashed across all the “what to do” posts, but they’re hard to time unless there’s a happy coincidence or you plan your trip around one. The Kennedy Space Center is about $90/person and at least a half-day experience.
Watch the Cruise Ships in Port
This was one of my favorite parts of our trip. There are several restaurants that sit right in the Port next to the cruise ships. I thought it was so cool watching them depart! You’ll have to time it right, so early morning or evening is best. The ships are so massive, it’s amazing watching them float by!
Visit the Ron Jon Surf Shop Flagship Store
Although not the original, the Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach is the Flagship store! It’s massive and fun to shop around, we grabbed souvenirs for all of our friends and family inside!
Eat Fresh Seafood
Another one of my favorite vacation experiences is trying local restaurants! I wrote all about the best restaurants in Cocoa Beach in this post, so I won’t repeat everything here, but the best local, pulled-right-out-of-the-ocean seafood was from Seafood Atlantic!
See the Manatee Sanctuary Park
Another stop I wish we had time to make was the manatee park! This protected park seems so amazing, and a fun nature-filled walk-through. I love that the park saves the manatees, they are one of my mom’s favorite animals, so I love them too!
