Christmas is right around the corner! I love this season, but it’s also extremely busy both personally and professionally in my full-time job. Because of how crazy it is, time goes by so fast! I love when things finally start to slow down and we can really enjoy family and friends in the holiday season. Sometimes that isn’t until Christmas Eve or Christmas Day! So Christmas dinner is such an important time to sit down with family or friends to share a meal and create those memories. Of course with any holiday gathering the question of what to wear comes up! I am sharing my tips and a round-up of outfits below for what to wear to Christmas Dinner.
What to Wear to Christmas Dinner
Sweater Dress and Boots
I love a cute sweater dress for a nice dinner! It stretches and is easy to move around in. This is a great in-between casual and formal look since the knit is cozy but dress and boots dress them up. It would be great if you were visiting family and heading out somewhere else for dinner. I would probably not wear it to dinner at my own home.

Formalwear
I have worn this outfit several times this holiday season, and I absolutely love it! It is a top and skirt, but so many times, I was complimented on my ‘dress’ because the pieces go so well together. My top is a cropped shell top that zips up the back. I loved the pearl detail, but I highly recommend wearing your hair up or back because it gets caught in the pearls constantly. I did learn this the hard way!
The skirt comes in several colors, but I loved the green for the season. It sits at my waist and is a pretty voluminous box pleat. It is a midi skirt but sits pretty long landing just above my ankles on my 5’5″ frame.
While my shoes are absolutely perfect for the outfit, they are older, so I have found some similar options below!

Wide-Leg Pants and Sweater
This is another great look to stay comfortable and look nice in. I absolutely love wide-leg satin pants for a comfy and dressed-up look. You can chase dogs or kids around and not worry about showing too much in a dress or feeling cold. I also love the cardigan for layering. Inside especially if you are cooking, it can get warm!

Casual
This is what I most often wear to Christmas dinner. We stay home with my family and enjoy a cozy day of opening gifts and watching movies. Then help mom in the kitchen prepare dinner and head to the table. It’s also happened once or twice that we’ve stayed in PJs all day!

How To Make A Christmas Outfit Festive
Evaluate Your Plans
Make sure you know what your plans are! If your plans are to stay in all day and watch a movie before holiday dinner, then formalwear or a dress wouldn’t be necessary. However, if you are heading to a big gathering where nicer clothing is expected, you can choose the dress or skirt look. See my post Holiday Party Dress Ideas for more!
Match your Hair
I love a pretty hairstyle to match your Christmas outfit! You can go with a simple style like waves or curls, but you can also lean into the bow trend or even grab some holiday decor and find a fun way to incorporate it! See my post Holiday Hairstyles for more ideas!
Christmas Colors
I know I’m not always one to wear a ton of color, but ’tis the season to break out the red, green, silver, and gold! I do have the grey satin pants look above, I may add a red bow to my hair with that look or use a more colorful bag.
Weather
I always take weather into account when dressing, and holidays are no different! If it is snowing or wet out, I may change my shoes or wear something warmer than if it is sunny.
